Edition Policy

At Doherty Atelier, all editions - open or limited - are produced to collector standards. This policy exists to ensure absolute transparency, long-term value, and archival integrity for every collector.

1. Open Edition Prints

Open Editions are uncapped and unsigned prints designed for wide accessibility.

They are always:

  • Printed on archival, acid-free fine-art paper
  • Using museum-grade pigment inks
  • With a discreet white border
  • Shipped directly from certified fine-art production partners

Open Editions never affect the value of limited editions or originals, because:

  • They are clearly differentiated in format
  • They lack the signature and numbering system
  • They serve as the “entry-level” tier of the Atelier

2. Limited Edition Prints

Limited Editions are strictly capped and never reprinted once sold out.

Each Limited Edition includes:

  • Artist signature (Matilda Margaret Doherty)
  • Edition number (e.g., 4/25)
  • Certificate of Authenticity
  • Premium paper or canvas options
  • No white border (collector-standard aesthetic)
  • Stricter hand-inspection prior to shipping

Once a limited edition sells out:

  • It is permanently retired
  • It will never reappear in any form (no re-editions, no variant sizes, no restocks)
  • Only collectors who own pieces from that edition will ever hold them

3. Originals

Original works are:

  • Hand-varnished (Winsor & Newton Professional Retouch Varnish or equivalent)
  • Signed on the reverse
  • Accompanied by a premium Certificate of Authenticity
  • Photographed and archived in the Atelier Catalogue Raisonné

Originals are never replicated as exact painted duplicates.

4. On Value, Transparency & Collector Trust

Matilda Margaret Doherty maintains a strict separation between:

  • Open Editions (accessible reproductions)
  • Limited Editions (investment-grade collector prints)
  • Originals (unique fine art objects)

This structure ensures:

  • No market dilution
  • No reprints after sell-out
  • Clear provenance
  • Long-term collector confidence

Any departure from these standards would be publicly announced and updated here.
